Professional Reflexology Treatments in Marbella
Reflexology is a method for activating the healing powers of the body. It is a holistic therapy treating the mind, body and spirit through the feet.
From ancient texts, illustrations and artefacts, we know that the early Chinese, Japanese, Indians and Egyptians worked on the feet to promote good health.
Reflexology is based on the principle that the organs, nerves and glands of the body are connected to certain reflex areas of the feet and hands. Energy flows through the body in ten vertical “zones” running from the head to the feet, and also down each arm to the hands.
When energy becomes blocked illness results and this shows as imbalances on the corresponding reflex areas of the feet and hands.
By applying firm pressure techniques to specific reflex areas causes physiological changes to take place, allowing energy to flow more freely, helping to unblock congested areas. When this is done the body is able to heal itself.
Also, negative effects in the body can be mirrored in the feet long before the effects become apparent in the rest of the body. Such negative effects will show up on the feet as reflexes that are tender and sensitive in the course of a reflexology session. Understanding these reflexes allows a Reflexologist to detect to detect problems early in development, long before they lead to serious illness.
With an awareness of what is happening in the body, a person can make choices and change habits to help alleviate the negative effects of stress in their lives.
Reflexology is very useful in coping with daily life, as it prevents energy imbalances, which arise from stressful situations as well as repressed and negatively lived emotions. It helps to restore the natural flow of energy, resulting in a balanced state of health and well-being.
There is much documented evidence of the effects of stress on the body’s health. 75% if ill health is said to be stress related. This can be anything from general headaches, neck and shoulder tension, colds and ‘flu, even through to cardiac illness, respiratory problems and cancer. Reducing stress is the best preventative measure one can take.
The release of stress and tension allows blood to circulate more efficiently to the cells of the body and to assist in the excretion of waste material (toxins). This process can result in pain relief where there was a congestion or blockage and this brings about a state of equilibrium or homeostasis. Only when the body is relaxed can it heal itself.
We are all aware of the importance of preventative healthcare. Reflexology clients find they are less susceptible to colds and `flu, feel generally more able to cope with stressful situations, and have a broader and happier outlook. Preventative health care can save a great deal of time, money and frustration.
Anyone can benefit from Reflexology. It is safe and drug-free and can be beneficial for the sick elderly and children.
Reflexology improves circulation, increases the elimination of toxins, promotes relaxation, helps rebalance the whole body, revitalises energy, reduces stress and is preventative health care.
It can help with many conditions without any unpleasant side effects. It is extremely beneficial for IBS, hormonal imbalance, sinusitis, menstrual problem, back pain, pain relief, insomnia, anxiety, depression, migraines and circulation problems to name but a few.
About the treatment
At the first Reflexology treatment it is essential to take a detailed medical history to enable the Reflexologist and the client to know what to expect from the treatment.
After the consultation, the client should remove shoes and socks and is made comfortable lying on a couch, covered with a blanket, with the feet exposed. The feet are cleaned and relaxed using massage techniques. Then with one foot wrapped in a towel the other foot starts to be worked on.
The reflexologist notes any tender areas and/or areas which show imbalances. After both feet have been treated the session finishes with a foot massage and then the client can relax for a short while before getting up.
The treatment will take approximately 1 hour. Water should be consumed after a reflexology session to help with the elimination of toxins.
Most people find Reflexology extremely relaxing. And some actually fall asleep!
However, occasionally after the first treatment or two, the body may respond in a very definite way – you may have a feeling of well-being and relaxation; or you may feel more lethargic, nauseous or tearful or you may feel a little “groggy” or can experience discomfort in “problem” areas of the body. This is called a “healing crisis”. This is quite normal and should only last a short while. It is vital information for the Reflexologist as it shows your body is responding to treatment.
How many reflexology sessions will I need?
This depends on what is wrong with you and how well you react to the treatment. Most people can see a benefit after 2-3 weekly sessions. For more long term conditions it could take up to six sessions to see a more permanent outcome. Although a one-off session is very relaxing and stress relieving it is nice to keep the body in tip-top condition by having a regular reflexology treatment once a month or 2 – 3 times a year.
